IP Video Decoding
“IP camera video streams are compressed via schemes such as H.264 or H.265 and must be processed before they can be displayed. This “decoding” process involves extracting video information from the stream, then de-compressing, scaling and possibly cropping the resulting video frames as necessary for the specific display requirement.
This process occurs every time an IP camera image is displayed on a monitor screen or played back from a recording. Decoding compressed video streams is computationally-intensive and requires significant processing power, especially for higher resolution and real-time video streams.
When matrix views of multiple video streams are required on a CCTV operator’s screen for example, then these streams must be decoded in parallel. When multiple matrix views are required on a video display wall, then the decoding processing workload (the "decoding density") can be extremely high, and is why dedicated video display controller systems and highly optimised software are needed. This is the driving factor behind Veracity's development of the VIEWSPAN display controller range with embedded VIEWSPAN Nexus software."
A high-bandwidth network infrastructure is essential to handle the transmission of multiple video streams from IP cameras to the control room and the display controllers. Video streams can also be distributed to remote auxiliary displays or monitoring stations and decoded locally by compact display controllers such as VIEWSPAN One or Solo.”
