Ethernet Extender with PoE
Ethernet Extender with optional PoE forwarding
OUTREACH lets network installers overcome the distance restrictions of wired Ethernet, so that IP cameras, wireless access points and other network devices can be located right where they are needed. OUTREACH is simply connected in-line with the Cat 5/6 cable, and restores the network signal, providing Ethernet extension and Power over Ethernet (PoE) forwarding with no need for an electrical supply.
OUTREACH has now been replaced by OUTREACH Max and OUTREACH Lite:
- To extend Ethernet and PoE, use OUTREACH Max
- To extend Ethernet only, use OUTREACH Lite

Full-bandwidth Ethernet
extension
Regular 100BASE-T Ethernet limits the cable length between active
devices to 100 metres (328 feet). However Veracity's OUTREACH
Ethernet extender repeats the network signal, allowing extension
without requiring local power.
By connecting an OUTREACH for every extra 100 metres of cable,
network range can be extended from 100 metres to 200, 300 or even
1000 metres (3280 feet)! And because the signal is restored every
100 meters, the full-duplex 100BASE-T bandwidth you need (total
200Mbit/s) is maintained with no restrictions at any
distance.
Extend Power over Ethernet
OUTREACH can extend Ethernet in this way because it draws its own
electrical power supply from the network cable using
industry-standard IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE). PoE can
also be forwarded automatically to other OUTREACHes or compatible
devices such as IP cameras.
This means that an IP camera can be installed up to 300 metres (984
feet) from a centrally located PoE switch, using only two OUTREACH
extenders. All the power required for the IP camera and both
OUTREACHes is delivered by the PoE switch, so no electrical
installation is required.
OUTREACH can also be used with Veracity's OUTSOURCE range of
enhanced PoE injectors, which allow even greater extension distance
and device power.
Easy installation
OUTREACH requires no user set-up or configuration in order to
operate. It simply has two network ports, both of which
automatically establish a network connection. It is detected as a
PoE device by the installed PoE network switch or injector, and
will forward PoE to the next device in the chain if
appropriate.
Veracity's Power Promise (patent pending) technology ensures that
power is only forwarded if there is no risk of overload. And
physical installation is made straightforward thanks to OUTREACH's
compact dimensions and tough wall-mountable case.

IP Video
The OUTREACH Ethernet extender is ideal for IP video applications,
as it eliminates the one disadvantage that network cameras have
compared to older analogue cameras: the limited cable length. As
PoE is becoming universal in digital video installations, Cat 5
cable extension is as simple as connecting an OUTREACH wherever it
is needed.
OUTREACH can also be used to upgrade legacy twisted-pair video
installations to IP, where the Cat 5 infrastructure for a network
is already in place, but run lengths exceed the 100 meter limit for
Ethernet.
Wireless networking
Like IP cameras, wireless access points (WAPs) are ideally suited
to PoE as they must be positioned optimally in locations that are
often inaccessible or remote. Using OUTREACH, a WAP - or Bluetooth
access point or RFID reader - can be located just where it is
needed for optimal coverage.
General network applications
OUTREACH can be used to extend connections for any Ethernet
network, without restricting its bandwidth. Even if no PoE is
required by end devices, it is easily added at any convenient
point, avoiding the need to run power to edge switches or
repeaters.
