Veracity PINPOINT is its fastest selling professional security installer product
Veracity, the leader in IP connectivity and transmission solutions, has sold several thousand PINPOINT adaptors in the first quarter since its launch at IFSEC '09. PINPOINT is a matchbox-sized adaptor which helps installers to easily set-up and focus Power over Ethernet-(POE) enabled Internet Protocol (IP) cameras. Installers can make instant focusing adjustments by viewing the camera output via a laptop or PDA when they are next to the camera location.
The adaptor features three network ports - two sockets and a short flying RJ45 lead. PINPOINT enables the installer to disconnect the POE network cable from the IP camera that requires setting up and plug it into PINPOINT. The camera is then powered by re-connecting the camera through PINPOINT's flying lead, passing through the POE. PINPOINT's third network port then provides a direct network connection to the IP camera allowing the installer to set-up and focus the camera using a laptop or PDA by connecting to this port.
The PINPOINT adapter eliminates the need for an additional person to view camera output remotely and then pass focusing guidance (typically via a mobile phone) on to the on-site installer. PINPOINT saves time and cost as the on-site installer takes total control of the set-up through viewing live images from the camera as he is installing it. This permits fine-tuning of the camera lens focus, aperture and field of view. In particular PINPOINT of a highly practical and cost effective solution for fine-focus of megapixel cameras in-situ, which has been a major constraint until now.
Unlike analogue cameras, IP cameras require decoding and decompression of the digital video stream for display. PINPOINT allows POE to be passed through to the camera, whilst allowing a local laptop or PDA to be networked directly to the camera.
PINPOINT is powered by POE and does not require an additional power supply. It is compatible with standard POE (IEEE 802.3af), POE Plus (IEEE 802.3at) and most non-standard POE up to 30 watts. The device also features a 'POE enabled' indicator to provide visual confirmation that the camera is receiving power. With the electronics in a small, tough, solid-moulded casing, PINPOINT is ideally suited to the rigours of everyday installation use.
Alastair McLeod, managing director, Veracity UK Limited, commented:
"PINPOINT is a solution to a very specific problem that we know installers had. Focusing and setting up an IP camera via instructions relayed by mobile phone from a colleague sitting in front of a PC in a control room is extremely difficult and time-consuming. Frequently the results are less than perfect. It also takes up two people's time rather than one. The rapid uptake of the product shows that we have really hit the nail on the head in providing this low-cost and easy-to-use solution."
PINPOINT is available through Veracity's usual distribution channels, with a recommended retail price is £39.00. Veracity products are available in the UK through Mayflex, Norbain, Anixter, Black Box, DVS and in Ireland via Videnda and via specialist online stores such as Network Webcams. A network of European distributors also carry the product, including ADI, Norbain NL, and Anixter. A number of major IP camera manufacturers have already made PINPOINT available in their installer kits on both sides of the Atlantic.
